I've read the books. :) I remember my reaction to the TV series (which I only watched a few episodes of) being, "You've got to be joking. You're adapting a book series that has way too much gratuitous violence in it, and your reaction is, 'Hey, we'll add some gratuitous nudity as well.'"
I did enjoy a lot about the books; Mr. Martin is a talented writer. But after a certain point, I realized that the book series was a game of Musical Chairs, where only one likeable character (if that many) was going to be left alive in the end. I'm afraid I was too tenderhearted to continue with the series.
