My favourite of all Sutcliff's works, the first one I read, and one of the few with a female POV. This might well explain why it's such a standout. I have to say the succinct description of the narrow and dangerous valley makes more sense tactically speaking than Sutcliff's Road to Nowhere, which is very poetic but a bit vague.
